Application Deadline: February 28, 2020

Morgan County Rural Electric Association is proud to offer Lineworker Scholarships to assist individuals in establishing a career in the power industry. The $5,000 Lineworker Scholarship(s) will be awarded to applicants selected by the Lineworker Scholarship Committee.

An electrical line worker performs many different tasks, including climbing poles or operating aerial lift devices to work on overhead lines 25 to 200 feet above the ground, erecting substations, or digging trenches to string underground electric cable.

MCREA estimates that an Apprentice Lineworker can typically expect a starting wage upwards of $25 per hour, with the Journeyman Lineman earning potential of around $40 per hour. Typically, line workers also receive medical insurance, a pension plan, life insurance, and a retirement savings plan.

Qualified applicants must reside within the boundaries of Morgan County REA’s service area, and is attending or will attend an approved lineworker training program as a full-time student. MCREA’s service area boundary in northeastern Colorado includes all of Morgan County and portions of Logan, Weld, Adams, Arapahoe and Washington counties.

Scholarship recipients are selected by a committee comprised from the MCREA Operations Department. The committee’s decisions are based on a number of factors, including academics, school and community participation, work experiences, and a student statement of goals and aspirations. In addition to the application, candidates will be required to participate in an interview process prior to selection for the scholarship. The scholarship recipients are not required to work at Morgan County REA after graduating lineworker school. There are no age restrictions to apply for the Lineworker Scholarships.
